Stephen Kerr, born September 27, 1965, is a former NBA player turned coach for the Golden State Warriors.
He’s known for his sharpshooting skills.
Kerr won nine NBA titles – five as a player and four as a coach.
He played college basketball at Arizona and set a record for three-point shooting.
After retiring, Kerr owned part of the Phoenix Suns and later led the team as president and general manager.
He then worked as a commentator before coaching the Warriors in 2014.
Under his leadership, the Warriors have been incredibly successful, winning four championships and setting records.
Early life and international play
Kerr was born in Beirut, Lebanon.
His dad, Malcolm H. Kerr, was an academic. Kerr’s grandfather, Stanley Kerr, helped during the Armenian genocide.
Kerr grew up in Lebanon and other Middle Eastern countries.
In 1984, his dad was killed in Beirut. In 1986, Kerr played basketball for the U.S. national team, winning gold but injuring his knee.
College career
Kerr, initially overlooked in high school, played basketball at the University of Arizona from 1983 to 1988.
Despite a knee injury sidelining him for a season, he led the Wildcats to victory against rivals Arizona State University in 1988.
Kerr graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of General Studies, majoring in history, sociology, and English.
Professional career
Phoenix Suns (1988–1989):
Drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1988, Kerr scored 2.6 points per game in his rookie season.
Cleveland Cavaliers (1989–1992):
Traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1989, Kerr set team records for three-point shooting.
Orlando Magic (1992–1993):
Moved to the Orlando Magic in 1992 through a trade, maintaining a steady performance.
Chicago Bulls (1993–1998):
Joined the Chicago Bulls in 1993, and played a crucial role in their championship wins.
San Antonio Spurs (1999–2001):
Acquired by the San Antonio Spurs in 1999, won another NBA championship.
Portland Trail Blazers (2001–2002):
Traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2001, and played a season before returning to the Spurs.
Return to San Antonio (2002–2003):
Back with the San Antonio Spurs in 2002, contributed to another NBA Finals victory.
Retirement:
Kerr retired after the 2003 NBA Finals, having won five championships and holding three-point shooting records.
Broadcaster and commentator
In 2003, Kerr joined TNT as a basketball analyst, doing segments sponsored by Coors Light and later Sprint.
He also commented on NBA games for Yahoo! and featured in NBA video games.
After a break to work for the Phoenix Suns, he returned to TNT in 2010.
Kerr also covered college basketball on CBS and wrote for Grantland until 2015.
In 2023, he appeared as a cartoon version of himself on Clone High.
Legacy
Kerr made NBA history by coaching his team to 67 or more wins in three straight seasons.
In 2022, the NBA honored him as one of its top 15 coaches ever, marking the league’s 75th anniversary.
Personal life
Kerr wed Margot Brennan, his sweetheart from college, in 1990.
They have three kids.
He loves soccer and strongly backs Liverpool F.C. In 2023, Kerr purchased a small part of La Liga team RCD Mallorca.

Early Life:
Susan Kerr grew up in Anaheim, California, where she learned important lessons from her family.
Her parents and grandparents showed her the value of working hard, staying strong, and being loyal to loved ones.
Her mom, who grew up on a farm in Illinois, taught her to be positive and brave, while her dad, who was a woodworker, showed her the importance of honesty and caring for her family.
Susan also enjoyed living in a diverse neighborhood, where she learned about love, kindness, and different cultures.
Education
After finishing college at Cal State Fullerton, Susan went to the University of Southern California for graduate school.
She got her MBA there, thanks to mentors who encouraged her to keep learning and growing.

Susan started her career at Ernst and Young, where she helped companies with their management.
Later, she worked at the Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC, focusing on healthcare.
In 2003, she started her own company, Advancing Inspiration, LLC, to help leaders become better at their jobs.

John who is the brother closest to Steve in age has carved his path in academia.
He currently holds the position of Professor of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University, leveraging his expertise in applied economics to address environmental challenges.
Andrew Kerr
He is an Associate Professor in the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town.
He teaches master/Ph.D. micro econometrics and labor Kerr’s economics courses, an Honours course in the analysis of household survey data, and from January 2023, he is the Post-Graduate Convenor in the School of Economics.
From 2011 until June 2020, he was employed by DataFirst at UCT, with which he is still associated.
He holds DPhil and MPhil degrees in Economics from the University of Oxford, as well as a BCom (Hons) and BSc from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He has worked as a short-term consultant for the World Bank (2009, 2011, 2017-2019) and has experience in running firm and household surveys in Ghana (2013) and Tanzania (2008).
He is the founder and co-owner of TaxiMap- a website to help people get around on minibus taxis.
