Born to first-generation Ukrainian parents, Michael Farmiga and Lubomyra “Luba” Farmiga, Vera emphasized her deep ties to her Ukrainian heritage.

Raised in Irvington, New Jersey, she attended a Ukrainian Catholic school, engaged in Ukrainian community activities, and even pursued a career as a professional Ukrainian folk dancer.

In a 2014 interview with Refinery29, Vera highlighted their upbringing, describing it as ‘gentle and loving’ with no hidden secrets.

This nurturing environment, she suggests, may have influenced her inclination towards exploring ‘dark subject matter’ in her horror film roles

Nadia Farmiga

Nadia, Vera Farmiga’s sister closest in age, transitioned from a career in mechanical engineering to the food and drink industry.

Together with her partner, Wilson Costa, who brings over 25 years of restaurant industry experience, Nadia is now the owner of Misto.

Before starting Misto, the duo worked at Le Garrett restaurant in New York City and later settled in Kingston in the Hudson Valley region.

Misto is known for blending ‘Brazilian and Ukrainian flavors,’ incorporating elements from both Nadia’s Ukrainian background and Wilson’s Brazilian heritage.

Described as ‘part pop-up, part private catering,’ Misto focuses on promoting ‘healthy lifestyles, rich cultural heritages, and culinary creativity.’

The name ‘Misto,’ meaning ‘mixed’ in Portuguese, reflects the couple’s diverse backgrounds and their approach to food.

Laryssa Farmiga

Vera Farmiga’s second youngest sister, Laryssa intentionally keeps a lower profile compared to her older and younger siblings, particularly Taissa.

She was born with spina bifida, a congenital condition causing incomplete development of the spine in a developing baby.

Although Vera typically refrains from sharing pictures of her sister on social media, she did post a photo on Twitter in 2014 featuring sisters Nadia and Taissa, with Laryssa on the far right.

On Facebook, Laryssa shares inspirational quotes and frequently posts alongside the Farmiga matriarch, Luba.

Taissa Farmiga

Taissa, the youngest member of the Farmiga family, is Vera’s sole sibling to pursue a career in acting.

Born on August 17, 1994, there’s a significant 21-year age gap between her and Vera, leading to occasional misconceptions about their relationship.

Encouraged by her older sister to enter the entertainment industry, Taissa made her debut in Vera’s directorial project, Higher Ground, before participating in various movies and TV shows.

Emulating her sister’s penchant for horror, Taissa garnered recognition as a ‘Scream Queen’ with roles in American Horror Story seasons like Murder House (2011),

Coven (2013–2014), Roanoke (2016), and Apocalypse (2018).

She also joined The Conjuring universe, portraying Sister Irene in 2018’s The Nun.

Beyond horror, Taissa took on the role of Gladys Russell in the HBO period drama The Gilded Age, with production commencing in February 2021 after pandemic-related delays.

In her personal life, Taissa exchanged vows with screenwriter and director Hadley Klein in an intimate ceremony at their Los Feliz, California home on August 8, 2020.

Victor, Stephan, And Alexander Farmiga

Victor, the eldest sibling among Vera Farmiga’s seven children, holds the position of the older brother.

Meanwhile, Stephan and Alexander, younger than Vera, find themselves in the middle of the family hierarchy.

The brothers, Victor, Stephan, and Alexander, prefer a low profile.

They keep their lives private, unlike their more public-facing sisters, Vera and Taissa.

Besides, they grew up in a close-knit and generous family, and have stayed rooted in New Jersey, enjoying moments with family away from the public eye.
